On 8 October 2026 Anthropic launched the Anthropic Cyber Mission, starting with a Critical Infrastructure Defense Program with 11 founding partners and OSS Scanner, a free, opt-in service that scans open-source projects with its most capable models. Anthropic says reports are not human-reviewed and it expects a true-positive rate above 90%.
On 8 October 2026 OpenAI reported banning two covert influence operations that used its models: a Russia-origin cluster it calls Dark Clark, and an Iran-origin one it calls Bogus Bylines. OpenAI rates Dark Clark Category 5, the first it has disrupted since it began reporting. The findings and ratings are OpenAI's own.
Mistral AI released Mistral Large 4 in public preview on 6 October 2026: a natively multimodal mixture-of-experts model with 1 trillion parameters, 49 billion of them active, priced at $1.36 per million input tokens and $4.18 per million output tokens. Mistral says the weights will follow by the end of October.
