On 8 October 2026 Anthropic said it will commit $150 million over three years to the Genesis Mission, a federal initiative to speed up scientific discovery with AI. It aims to make Claude available to more than 15 agencies and to support several hundred research projects with credits.
Anthropic released Claude Haiku 5.5 on 7 October 2026. For prompts up to 100,000 tokens it costs $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens, the same list price as OpenAI's GPT-6 Luna. The benchmark scores are Anthropic's own.
Google released Nano Banana 2.1, an image generation and editing model built on Gemini 3.6 Flash, on 6 October 2026. Its API price is $0.0336 per 1K image, about half the $0.067 of Nano Banana 2 at 1K and 2K, and about a quarter lower at 4K. The quality scores come from Google's own model card.
