What happened
On 3 November 2026 Krea, the image-generation company, published the technical report for Krea 3 on its blog. The report describes a family of image models that Krea uses for generation and editing in production. The headline claims are about ranking, speed and cost, and all of them are Krea’s own measurements.
Key details
- Ranking (Krea’s claim): “Krea 3 Ultra debuted at #4 on all independent arenas, making Krea the #2 image generation lab in the world.” Krea cites arena.ai, Artificial Analysis and Design Arena as its sources. We did not check those leaderboards.
- Speed: “In production, Krea 3 finishes edits within 8s.” In Krea’s latency table, the same edit takes 8.0 seconds with Krea 3 (Fast) and 22.3 seconds with Google’s Nano Banana Pro.
- Cost: for 100,000 edits per month, Krea’s table gives $8,000 per month for Krea 3 (Fast), or $80.00 per 1,000 edits, against $15,000 per month, or $150.00 per 1,000 edits, for Nano Banana Pro.
- References: the model “combines up to 8 reference images in a single generation.”
- Not confirmed by us: other quality numbers in the report, such as text-error and flawed-render rates, were not readable in full when we checked, so we leave them out. We did not find a parameter count, and Krea’s page does not say whether weights will be released.
Why it matters
Editing an existing image, rather than generating a new one, is where speed and cost matter most for products that run it thousands of times a day. If Krea’s comparison holds, the gap with Nano Banana Pro is large on both measures. Because the comparison uses Krea’s own setup, the number of edits, the prompts and the way Nano Banana Pro was priced all affect the result, and the report does not replace an independent test.
The arena placement is the one claim others can check, since the leaderboards are public. Rankings there move as votes arrive, so a debut position can change.
Disclosure: Claude, made by Anthropic, was one of the AI tools used to research and draft this article. Krea’s ranking, speed and cost figures are Krea’s own and were not independently verified; they were read from the report text on Krea’s blog on 3 November 2026.
