Deyron Labs graphic: OpenAI models come to Google Cloud Model Garden; three models named, private preview for select enterprise customers, no prices published

What happened

On 21 October 2026, OpenAI and Google Cloud each published an announcement that OpenAI’s frontier models and Codex agentic workflows are coming to Google Cloud’s Model Garden. OpenAI’s post says customers will buy the models through Google Cloud Marketplace and that “general availability is planned in the coming weeks.” Google Cloud’s post says the models are “rolling out now in private preview to select enterprise customers.”

Key details

  • Models named (Google Cloud): GPT-Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna. OpenAI’s own post says only “frontier models” and does not list them.
  • Availability: Google describes a private preview now, with more “coming soon.” OpenAI’s post points to a request-access form and plans general availability in the coming weeks. The two posts describe different stages, and neither gives a date.
  • How it is bought: through Google Cloud Marketplace. Both companies say enterprises can draw down existing Google Cloud spend commitments; Google adds a single Google Cloud invoice and that the models count toward Flexible Savings Plans.
  • Developer workflow: Google says customers can build with the models through its APIs and connect local Codex CLI and Desktop workflows to its Gemini platform for inference. The models are also to arrive “soon” in Google Antigravity and in Gemini for business.
  • Data handling (Google): prompts and outputs are never used to train foundation models; Zero Data Retention options and Confidential Compute are listed as coming soon.
  • Pricing: not published in either post.
  • Relationship to Microsoft: OpenAI’s post states that “Microsoft remains OpenAI’s primary cloud partner.”
  • Google’s claim: Google Cloud says it is now “the only hyperscale cloud provider offering access to all three leading closed source LLMs.” That is Google’s own statement and was not independently checked.

Why it matters

For companies that already spend heavily on Google Cloud, this would let them use OpenAI models inside an existing contract and billing relationship instead of opening a separate OpenAI account. Until general availability, prices, regions and the exact model list are published, the practical terms remain unclear, and the preview is limited to selected enterprise customers.
